  • LADYSMITH HEALTH CARE AUXILIARY – Vice President/President Board Member

    Ladysmith Health Care Auxiliary is seeking a dedicated experienced leader to serve as Vice President of Ladysmith Health Care Auxiliary Executive Board; this volunteer should also be willing and able to advance to President for a 2-year term in February 2026-28.  This volunteer position will help transition the current executive board to a governing board with an Executive Director taking over much of the operating requirements of the organization. This volunteer should have leadership, advocacy, stakeholder engagement skills as well as organizational and basic computer skills.   • BC PARKS – Backcountry Host

    Backcountry Host

    BC Parks is seeking a volunteer host at Croteau Lake in Strathcona Provincial Park. Volunteers for this position would greet park visitors and provide information about the park and surrounding area. Park hosts focus on visitor safety and etiquette and supporting the group site facilities.
    There are several volunteer host positions available for one-week minimum term this summer; sorter terms may be considered if a weekend is part of the stay.  Due to the remote location, there must be two adults in the hosting party. Applicants must successfully complete and electronic criminal record check. A love of the outdoors, First Aid training and current certification at OFA Level 1, with CPR is also required.   • CANADIAN RED CROSS – Front Desk Volunteer

    Canadian Red Cross is seeking a front desk volunteer. This position is one shift per week for 3.5 hours either 9:30AM to 1PM or from 1PM to 4:30PM. This volunteer would be answering phone calls from clients and health care workers, entering data in the computer, and filling health equipment orders from supply. This volunteer must have good written and oral English skills, have computer literacy, basic telephone etiquette and have the ability to lift up to 40 pounds.   • KIWANIS LODGE – Bingo Helper

    Kiwanis Lodge seeks help for the Bingo program on Wednesdays and/or Fridays at 1:30. Bingo volunteers are paired with 1 or 2 residents to help them keep up with game and add to the fun! Bingo lasts approximately 1 hour, with a snack and coffee time after; the bingo volunteer is welcome to stay for this. Volunteers for the Bingo program need the ability to hear the numbers as they are called and to read them. Patience, kindness, flexibility and comfort conversing with seniors are important qualities for a Bingo volunteer.  An RCMP Criminal Record Check is required and is paid for by Kiwanis Lodge.   • NANAIMO DISABILITY RESOURCE CENTRE (NDRC) Office/Administration Assistant volunteer and Reception and Permit Processing Volunteer

    Office/Administration Assistant

    Nanaimo Disability Resource Centre requires volunteers for various office/administrative tasks. Required tasks include: sorting and organizing files, data entry, answering phones and other miscellaneous duties.  This is a very flexible position, with no time commitment requires; it can be adapted to the volunteer’s abilities; some tasks could be remote/work from home.

    Reception and Permit Processing

    NDRC requires volunteers to greet walk-in clients, answer phones, take messages, and process Parking Permit applications.  This volunteer position is 3 hours per week, from 9AM to noon or from 12w:30 to 30 PM; NDRC currently have vacancies for most AM and PM shifts.  Due to the training required, a time commitment of 6 months is required.

    For both these opportunities with the Nanaimo Disability Resource Centre, all training is provided, and support staff will be nearby for help. Organizational skills, attention to detail and basic computer skills are an asset. An RCMP Criminal Record Check is required and is paid for by the agency.
