ElderDog provides free services to seniors who need help looking after their dogs so they can remain as a family. To volunteer as a Dog Walker, you should enjoy helping seniors with their dogs, have some experience with dogs, be reliable and have good interpersonal skills. A volunteer for this position needs to commit to a couple of hours or more each week to help a senior with activities like dog walks. The senior may also need assistance getting a dog to and from veterinary or grooming appointments, to require help with other related dog-care needs, such as minor grooming or administering medication. Walks are generally 30 to 60 minutes in length. It’s up to you how many days you want to commit to. All volunteers must b e 18 years of age or older and provide a favourable Police Information Check. CIBC Run for the Cure Leadership October 4, 2026
The Canadian Cancer Society CIBC Run for the Cure Is a 5k or 1k walk or run. It is a volunteer-led event and the largest cancer fundraiser in Canada. They are looking for volunteers who are passionate about the breast cancer cause, is well connected in the community, and who enjoy event planning. The ideal candidate has a positive attitude, communication and interpersonal skills and has a strong sense of self-motivation and time management. They are recruiting for the following volunteer committee roles in Nanaimo – Hope Engagement Lead, Community Outreach Lead and Run Day Experience Lead. Dog Care Support Coordinator (DCS)
ElderDog provides free services to seniors who need help looking after their dogs so they can remain a family. They have three DCS Coordinators and are seeking a fourth to join the team. You would be responsible for responding to inquiries for assistance, conducting intake visits, taking an assessment walk with the dogs, scheduling, providing support and advice to volunteers, record keeping, teleconferences with other Dog Care Support Coordinators across Canada. Excellent organization and communication skills are required, as well as strong computer skills, specifically with Gmail, Google Docs and Google Sheets. You will require a computer, printer, and scanner, as well as a cell phone or digital camera. All volunteers must be 18 years of age or older and provide a favourable Police Information Check. Volunteers for Seedy Sunday March 1, 2026
Seedy Sunday 2026 teaks place March 1 from 10AM to 3PM at Nanaimo District Senior Secondary School, located at 35 Wakesiah Ave. Nanaimo. This is a one-day community event that provides a lace to buy/exchange locally-grown, climate-adapted seeds and plants. There are also workshops and children’s activities. Foodshare is searching for volunteers to help at either a morning or an afternoon shift at Seedy Sunday. Possible jobs include helping with set up and take-down, front of house greeting, directions, helping vendors, selling raffle tickets, or assisting at workshops. Volunteers for Seedy Sunday should be punctual and have good people and organizational skills. Training and supervision will be provided. Drivers for food van
The Nanaimo Salvation Army requires 2 volunteers each morning starting at 8:30AM to drive a set route to distribute kindness and breakfast from the van for 1½ to 2 hours. Volunteers will work in pairs. Volunteers can commit to one or more mornings per week. Volunteers for this position will need a regular Class 5 license with a clean driving abstract and an RCMP Criminal Record Check.
